Associate Civil Engineer
Under general supervision, performs ordinary civil engineering work in connection with design, construction, inspection and scheduling review, operation and maintenance of water reclamation plants and sewers, surveys, specifications and estimates, inspection of materials and workmanship, project and cost control and complex engineering computations; may supervise subordinate engineers and sub-professional personnel.
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, sanitary or structural engineering and two years of full-time, post-degree civil or environmental engineering experience related to the District's activities. A four-year accredited college or university is interpreted to mean accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Foreign-educated applicants must produce a satisfactory assessment of their academic qualifications by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The NCEES assessment and any additional coursework used to correct deficiencies must be completed by the qualification deadline. Substitution: Full-time graduate study in the designated fields of engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
One year of service with the District as an Assistant Civil Engineer, Assistant Electrical Engineer, Assistant Mechanical Engineer or Assistant Structural Engineer; or possession of a bachelor's degree in an appropriate academic specialty and one year of service with the District as a Treatment Plant Operator II, Engineering Technician V, Operating Engineer II or Engineering Draftsman III. Civil service status in one of the foregoing classes.
