Senior Mechanical Engineer
Performs supervisory and professional mechanical engineering work in connection with the mechanical design, construction, maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment in wastewater treatment plants or pumping stations.
Absolute Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois; however, for a candidate with registration as a Professional Engineer in another state, registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois must be obtained prior to appointment. Minimum Requirements: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, sanitary or structural engineering and four years of full-time, post-degree mechanical engineering experience related to the District's activities. Substitution: Full-time graduate study in mechanical engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
Absolute Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois; however, for a candidate with registration as a Professional Engineer in another state, registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois must be obtained prior to appointment. Anticipation of Eligibility: An applicant who can demonstrate the likelihood of being registered as a Professional Engineer by the Anticipation Deadline may be admitted to the examination process. Candidates so admitted, who are successful in the examination process, may not be appointed until evidence is provided that registration was obtained by the Anticipation Deadline. Obtaining registration is interpreted to mean that the candidate passed a Professional Engineer test that was given prior to the Anticipation Deadline, and that no further requirements must be met by the candidate in order for the license to be issued. Promotional Requirements: One year of service with the District as an Associate Civil Engineer, Associate Electrical Engineer, Associate Mechanical Engineer or Associate Structural Engineer; or possession of a bachelor's degree in an appropriate academic specialty and one year of such service as an Associate Process Control Engineer or Treatment Plant Operator III. Civil service status in one of the foregoing classes.
