Police Officer
Under supervision, in an assigned area, guards District buildings, grounds and property while carrying a firearm and exercising judgment and discretion in dealing with emergencies and security violations encountered.
Police Officers work a 40-hour week, with days off according to schedule. This means Police Officers' days off may not fall on weekends or regularly scheduled holidays. After completing the police academy, Police Officers are assigned to the midnight shift (12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.); evening shift (4:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight) or day shift (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years (60 semester hours of credit) at an accredited college or university. Possession of a valid driver's license. Substitution: Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or as a member of the military police may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
